Own up to tenancy fraud

  • Are you renting one of our properties, but not living there?

  • Are you letting someone else live there instead?

  • Have you used fake documents to get a tenancy with us?

Anybody found guilty of tenancy fraud could face a criminal record, a fine of up to £50,000 or a prison sentence. We are working with Bristol City Council and Solon Housing Association to try and tackle this crime. In April and May 2019, we’re giving tenants the chance to own up to tenancy fraud. We will not start legal proceedings against anyone who ends their tenancy during this time.

Latest figures show that there are around 500 households living in temporary accommodation in Bristol. There are also 11,800 families who are seeking long term accommodation on the housing register. By illegally occupying a social housing property you are preventing some of the most vulnerable in sociaety from accessing affordable accommodation.

If you want to end your tenancy, or if you think someone you know is committing tenancy fraud call 0117 922 2470 or email tenancy.fraud@bristol.gov.uk
