Farewell Oona

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our wonderful CEO Oona Goldsworthy, after a successful 16 years, is to leave the organisation to take up the role of Chief Executive at Brunelcare.

When Oona first joined Bristol Community Housing Foundation (BCHF) in 2003, it had no homes and was at the very start its regeneration of the Upper Horfield Estate. Initially working from a small house on the estate, BCHF grew to nearly 1000 homes and in 2017 formally merged with United Housing Association to form United Communities (UC). Oona became our first Chief Executive.

United Communities is implementing an ambitious development programme that will take us to 2,500 homes by 2022. During Oona’s tenure, we have overseen an ambitious and innovative tenancy and community investment programme, that puts co-production with residents and communities at its heart – More Than.  With top regulatory grading achieved in 2018, we look forward to recruiting a new Chief Executive to takes our ambition forward.

Oona’s decision to move to Brunelcare is driven by her personal experience of navigating the social care system as a carer. She also sees that the future of our social care system is one of the burning issues of our times, both locally and globally.

As two locally based housing organisations, Brunelcare and United Communities, have always worked closely together and will continue to do so over the coming years. They have much to learn from each other in devising new ways of providing mixed and intergenerational communities, fit for the 21st century.

Oona said: “It has been such a huge privilege to have led United Communities and to work with such great people, staff and residents over the years. Together we have created 1000’s of homes and built new communities, giving many families somewhere safe and secure as a springboard for their lives.”

Andy Willis, Chair of United Communities, said: “Oona has provided outstanding leadership to United Communities and the wider housing agenda in Bristol.  I look forward to working with Oona in her new role as Chief Executive of a valued partner of United Communities”

Finance Director Anna Klimczak will step up as acting Chief Executive while the Board undertakes the task of appointing Oona’s successor.
