Employment Support success story!

We’ve been working with Buzz Employment support to sign post residents into work, training and employment.  In the last 3 months they have successfully supported 10 people into work!

One success story is Dean (name changed) who is a lone parent.  Dean had not had a stable job for 10 years and was unsure how he would to get back into the job market with no experience of completing application forms and few formal qualifications.  Together, Dean and his Employment Advisor agreed an action plan with the goal of finding a paid job, ideally as a driver.  They identified Dean’s priorities as: finding work experience and an up to date reference; creating a CV; developing his literacy skills; support to complete application forms and exploring relevant job opportunities.

Dean regularly attended the employability drop-in for help completing his CV and application forms. He was supported to enrol with a local children’s centre and was successful in securing a voluntary position as a driver for a charity, he also started a course with Learning Communities.

Dean was a very motivated and keen volunteer and proved his worth as an excellent worker and driver.  His volunteer supervisor and Buzz worker noticed a positive change in his communication and confidence.

Completing the placement enabled Dean to add recent work experience to his CV and he also had an excellent reference from his supervisor.  As a direct result of his voluntary work, Dean was offered a 16 hour per week contract with a local delivery company and reports that he is really enjoying his new job.  His manager is very supportive and he hopes to increase his hours.

We also offer an in-house Employment Support service.  If you would like to help to find employment, training or volunteering opportunities – contact Tamsin Evans our Employment Support Officer on 0117 970 3079.
